Day 2 starts with a shower, the last shower opportunity until Day 7 in Baldy town. The water is warm at best but it's the eye opener I need to start our Itinerary, a 78 mile trek through the Sangre de Cristo Mountain, the southernmost sub-range of the Rocky's.
Our late Day 1 arrival in Philmont works to our advantage as we don't have to wait in long lines for equipment or at the health office. Our Ranger Chris has things well under control as we breeze through the formalities and we don't feel pressured at all to board the bus for our trail drop off. We have plenty of time for breakfast and a stop at the Tooth of Time Traders which is like a mini REI at base camp.
